Soul Calibur V information has been coming through the grapevines slow and steady and we’ve learned quite a lot lately. Soul Calibur V, like its past titles, is the standard run of the mill fighting game with a splash of unique game play concepts. Each version of the game introduces changes and innovations, and Soul Calibur V is no exception to this. Some major changes to the game is “Critical Finishes” and the Soul Gauge no longer is in the game. Armor no longer has any warning for when it is about to break, so those used to the warnings will need to be quick on their feet to adapt. Since the Soul Gauge was removed the development team, Project Soul, created a new gauge that works similar to what you can find in the latest installment of the Mortal Kombat series. The gauge will charge during the fight and allow you to execute “Brave” and “Critical Edge” attacks. Another large change that everyone will see is on the ring out event during a fight. In the past, when you caused an opponent to exit the ring it resulted in a victory for the player that remained inside. Now the game has a chance on some of the maps to move both players to a new arena area when a ring out occurs. This reminds me of the Dead or Alive idea knocking your opponent down stairs and follow in pursuit. These new ideas in the series open a large horizon of potential to add to its player base from other fighter games.
